Home The Buzzard's Nest
I'm building a Great Planes Spectra glider. It has a 78" wingspan (2 meters) and will be electric powered. At my home field we don't fly noise makers until 1:00 pm on Sundays so this will be my Sunday morning flyer.
Tail Feathers

The tail feathers are built up from laser cut parts and stick balsa cut to length. They go together very quick and easy.

Wing

The wing on this glider is two piece with a box spar and a built up joiner. It's easy to build and transport will be no problem. It's held on with rubber bands but I think I'll change that to dowels and nylon bolts.

Fuse

The fuse was a piece of cake to assemble. I did convert the wing over to dowells and nylon bolts so that took a little thought.

Covering

I didn't want to spend a lot of money on this airplane so when it came time to cover it I looked in my leftover covering box. I used a combination of Ultracote and Monokote I hope they don't fight :-)

Power

Power will come from a speed 600 can motor on 8 cells with an 8X4 folding prop.

Finished

The spectra is ready to fly. It weighs in at 42oz. which is under the recommended flying weight I think this is due to the type of servos and receiver I used.
